Spotted Horse Tavern

26 Church Lane

Westport, Connecticut

The Spotted Horse has great burgers and the best french fries.  Make sure you order extra ketchup with that, of course.  I haven’t tried the brunch yet, but it looks delicious (think waffles with berries and whipped cream), so I will do so soon and share all the details with you.

As for the dining room, the booths are best and very cozy.

Oko

6 Wilton Road

Westport, Connecticut (the old “Neat” space, for those of you who loved their hot chocolate!)

Oko is another sushi restaurant, so you should definitely go if you enjoy sushi.  Still, even if you don’t like sushi, you can get a delicious bento box with teriyaki chicken, edamame, miso soup, rice, vegetable tempura, and a soft serve ice cream sundae (with the topping of your choice.  I recommend Oko crunch.)!

Everybody at Oko is very nice and the food comes fast.  Some days it is very loud.

Gurney’s Resort

290 Old Montauk Highway

Montauk, New York

This is in a large resort, so you need to get through a few things to find the restaurant, so ask an employee for help.  (If you’re thirsty when you arrive, stop inside the door for some fruit-infused water.).  Once you arrive, request a table outside, overlooking the big beach, so you can get a preview of where you’ll be after dinner! Get spaghetti with olive oil. And if you want, there’s lots more.

After dinner, you can get desert from the menu or (my choice) from the coffee bar inside or go play on the beach.

Inlet Seafood Restaurant

541 E Lake Drive, Montauk, NY

There’s something here for everyone, from sushi to mac n’ cheese.  Johnny is the best sushi chef on the East End and he even makes special rolls to order.  He has even named some after two people in my family!  If sushi isn’t for you, don’t worry.  The other chef makes all the traditional kid favorites, plus chicken parmesan (it’s huge; share), seared salmon, and great salads, too.  Basically, Inlet is a crowd-pleaser.

For dessert, they make ice cream sundaes with sprinkles and might even add a cherry if you ask nicely.

Not only is the food amazing, but from the 2nd floor dining room you can watch ships and fishing boats going in and out of the harbor.  You can also spy Gosman’s dock across the way and beautiful sunsets.

(Insider tip: Merry is in charge and Juanita does the best penguin impression you’ve ever seen!)

Footprints at Albany Bahamas

South Ocean Boulevard

New Providence , The Bahamas

First of all, you don’t have to wear shoes here because the floor is made of SAND!!!  (No sunglasses needed, though!)  As if that isn’t enough there is a pool right outside (your parents can see you from the outdoor tables) and waterslides next door.  And if that’s still not enough, there are lots of floating toys, and a cave with a waterfall covering the entrance and exit!

When you have time to eat, the grilled cheese bento box is one of my favorites and my brother is crazy about the grilled salmon with pasta.  The fish sticks (and french fries) are good, too.

The bento box comes with a cookie, but you might want to save your sugar high for an ice cream cone.  I order mine with two marshmallows, a maraschino cherry, and rainbow sprinkles.

Planet Pizza

pexels-photo-166451.jpegMultiple locations, but the Westport location is the best.  Darien has a counter that is good for reading with your mom (we read a lot of Harry Potter here), but the tv’s are distracting and always show the news!

Get the pizza, not the salad!  I prefer cheese, but they have every topping you could ask for.

This is my second favorite restaurant in Connecticut (Brucolino is my first).

Oishi

Norwalk, Connecticut

Sushi only.  Get the non-spicy stuff, like the coconut shrimp roll (sweet) and the avocado roll (my brother likes to add red tobiko to it).  The shrimp shumai are also great, but the blonde miso soup is the best item on the menu!

Good for takeout, too.  Uber Eats delivers!

Bonda

75 Hillside Road, Fairfield, Connecticut

Tasty!  To start, munch on the pita chips with white bean dip.  For an entrée, I recommend the homemade pasta or the delicious fish.  Don’t forget a side of the rice; it’s great.

If you can get a table in the back room, I think it’s the best because it seems secret.  (You can then spy on the people in the front and the kitchen which you’re waiting for your food or for your parents to finish talking.)

Pasta Nostra

20 North Main Street in Norwalk, Connecticut

Pasta Nostra is the best!  Everything on the menu is delicious.  The food is Italian, featuring homemade pastas, fresh fish, meat, salads, and other comfort food.  The olive oil is imported directly by Chef Joe and is the best in the world (especially with the warm bread).  Don’t miss it!!

My favorite appetizer is the peppers (sweet) and mozzarella (fresh).  The best entree is the gnocchi.  I also love the cappellacci con zucca (which is a squash ravioli, but tastes so much better than you can imagine a vegetable tasting), the chicken parmesan, the agnolotti, and the breaded fluke (with extra lemon).

Don’t let your parents get the check before ordering some hot chocolate cake!

Note: they are open Wednesday through Sunday.  Take your whole family (and other families) for family dinner on Sunday evening.
